I feared religion, feared succumbing to the opiate of the masses. The word "God" troubled me, even while I sought a deeper spirituality. Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit... I blindly closed my mind to anything in Christian terms. But I was fortunate enough to pick up this book at a time in my life when I was beginning to shed many of my judgements, and consider faith not by how others may abuse it or be shackled by it, but how it might empower me to find a deeper happiness. It all started with me re-stumbling upon a quote I read five years ago on how we feared not our inadequacy, but our strength. And it ended up with me finishing this book minutes ago and my mind screeching to a halt, "What? It's over? I need more!" Only the whole point of the book was telling me I don't need to read more, I just need to act on what resonated with me from the words so recently imbibed.I rather doubt I'll ever consider myself Christian. But when you translate the concept of God from a bearded Old Testament crotchety and vengeful powerhouse to the raw and unadulterated purity of love... I don't need to read the Bible to find answers. When the idea of Jesus isn't so much the one and only Son of God, but a state of grace each and everyone of us can become through the shedding of fear... I can relate. When the word Christ is us used to speak to the fact that all of us are connected, rather than a fixation on crucifixion... I can open my mind a crack more. And the concept of the Holy Spirit as the guiding force that allows us to replace fear and its derivatives with love for ourselves and one another... alright, finally Christianity makes at least a lick of sense.Does everything in these pages resonate to me? I'm not sure, but it doesn't need to. The whole point as there is no single right answer, beyond the fact that love is always the right answer. But going to church on Sunday, believing in Jesus, living a life of abstaining from all physical joys or looking upon others or ourselves with judgement and shame... not a prerequisite to finding wisdom in these pages. I would finish a chapter, and the whole world would seem to make more sense. Colors looked better, and I would sink into a feeling of peace is never felt before. The book calls my shift in perception a miracle. I don't think I'm capable of disagreeing on that point. As the author says, this is only the beginning, not the destination. I don't know if I'll read or undertake A Course in Miracles, but I do know that this companion, this interpretation, has changed my world for the better.

So I am not finished with this book yet (about 70% of the way) but I felt like I needed to write a review today because I got to a point in the book where things started to go a bit sideways.I was recommended this book by someone, and I think the underlying message of the book is quite powerful. It basically teaches you to let go, focus on your inner light, aka your love, and let the rest happen as it will. I think this does wonders to curb your anxiety, and in a world were we are constantly bombarded with the collective neurosis that we constantly need to be "doing" and "making things happen," this offers a refreshingly saner perspective. It is counter-intuitive at times how, by letting things unfold as they will, we often get the things we so wanted as a by-product of focusing on our own inner light and bringing love to the world around us. This is where the message of this book is powerful.This book does use Christian theology as the way to explain this process. So it is based a lot on faith and prayer. As an atheist, I was able to overlook this and re-frame some of this as thinking about it in terms of the universe, and allowing the universe to unfold as it will. I don't particularly believe in prayer, but again I was able to overlook this in order to follow the message of the book, which really is about love.However, things got a bit sideways around Chapter 8. The author makes several claims, without citing any sources or studies:1. That the pill that the doctor gives us only heals us because we believe it heals us.2. That holistic medicine is just as effective in treating cancer as traditional medicine, because it is the patient's mental and emotional interaction with his treatment that activates the healing power.3. That when the cure for AIDs is finally found, we will give prizes to a few scientists, but many of us will know that millions and millions of prayers helped it happen.Especially the last one made me yell "Bullshit!" so loud that I am pretty sure I woke my neighbors. First of all, the author provides no evidence to back up the exceptional statements she makes. I don't see any studies or sources which can confirm her rather bold statements. As Hitchens said rather succinctly, "Exceptional claims demand exceptional evidence, and that which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence."In the US especially where anti-scientific attitude is pervasive (see: anti-vaxxers) her words here are actually quite dangerous. I really hope they don't lead people down the wrong path, and that people go to qualified medical professionals for their illnesses rather than try and pray themselves to health.So the book, which uses primarily Christian theology to explain the idea of love, unfortunately also suffers from the insanity of Christian theology in the belief that prayer can cure something like AIDs.Has this book overall been helpful to me, personally? I would say yes, it has. There is beauty and positivity in focusing on giving love and paying attention to your inner light. However, I would only recommend this book with a warning clause that some of the statements made by the author suffer from the archaic (and potentially dangerous) thinking that plagues most theologies.*edit: After finishing the book I still stand by my original review. One thing I wanted to add is that I have been using the “prayers” from the book (I just make them secular) as they seem to be a good way to ease anxiety and emotions when faced with difficult events or thoughts. Coupled with meditation it’s a good way to cope in harder times. The methods in this book are quite good in that regard; reframing your thoughts.

So far I love it. I have been a MW fan for two decades. I am really "working" the program. It contains 14 Lessons. Of hand it mentions that it is a lesson per day. The first lesson has taken me a month to date and I still have a few more words to work through. There are a list of emotions to release. You are supposed to choose those that apply. Of course, they all apply. I spend about 30 minutes journaling on each. I do one word per day. There are about 28 words. After a couple of weeks I realized I was doing the mental work but not the emotional release. Now I am going back over the list and really allowing myself to feel the feelings, express them (privately), surrender them. It is really working. I am feeling it lift off my shoulders. I have been able to modify my diet.

Great series of books teaching how to play the piano. Our piano teacher uses this series, and I have spoken to at least four more instructors in the area that all use these series to teach piano. Our daughter started with the first book in the series at age 5 and has been going through the books for the last two years. They teach the concepts progressively, with focus on good technique, enough variation, and a good selection of songs. She is never bored, and learns at a consistent pace. The main books for each level are called "Lesson Book". The "Technique and Artistry Book" for the same level is a companion to help students improve their knowledge and technique about music and piano artistry. So they complement each other well, and we tend to move in parallel in both of those books. We primarily use those two in our classes. For each level there are also "popular repertoire" and "christmas books" that take well known and liked songs and arrange them for that specific level of learning. We've sprinkled these here and there to keep things interesting for our daughter. There are also CDs that accompany the books, but I have no experience in those.

Great piano method. I have taught out of these books for years. Amazon killed a small forest sending it to me though. Huge box and wrapping with only one small book.

This is a great fiction book for Aspergers. A must read for everyone with Aspergers or interested.

I’ve had this book sitting on my kindle shelf for 4 years, it must have been recommended to me or free on amazon and I downloaded it, read a chapter and got bored. But last night, after seeing this book pop up on multiple occasions I decided to read it and I cannot believe I wasted 4 years not reading this book! I haven’t cried at a love story in a while but I was in tears more than one occasion with this book. I just only wish they had described his intimacy with Rosie in greater detail but I guess that may see irrelevant to most. Honestly this was a fantastic book and easily a favorite of mine as I would 100% read it again. I cannot wait till 2019 when the movie comes out. I highly recommend this book even to those who aren’t a fan of romance novels, this is in no way a conventional romance novel so trust me you’ll love it!

I purchased this book off Amazon.com for a local Mother’s Center book club I am in and I am so glad I did! The Rosie Project is about a Don Tillman who is a professor of genetics at a college, who decides he is done with dating and he wants to find a wife. he has a “quirky” personality and was never diagnosed with it but his friends, Claudia and Gene are pretty sure he has very high functioning form of Aspergers. He schedules his day down to the minute including how long dinner should take and his showers. When he decides to find a wife he comes up with this 30 page survey for women to fill out so it will weed out the ones that aren’t perfect for him therefore he doesn’t have to go on dates that will “waste his valuable time.” During this project he meets Rosie, who he mistaken as one of the ladies who was taking the survey. After one date, Rosie tells him that her mother slept with another man and the man that has raised her is not actually her father. That leads to a joint project called The Father Project that Rosie and Don meet up to find who her real father is and the relationship goes from there.I loved this book and I am going to give it 5 stars! It is categorized as a romantic comedy book and it was just that. It wasn’t a super sappy romantic read which I think I really enjoyed. The situations that Don got himself into were just so funny and I laughed out loud many times throughout the novel.The writer did an awesome job with character development which can kill the book or make the book. It wasn’t draggy, you found out who each character was and how they fit into the story and each one was memorable. My biggest complaint with books is when they mention a character and then later on mention them again and I have to flip back to figure out who the author is talking about and I did not have to do that with this book.Even though there is a second book in this series it wraps the story up in the first so you really don’t have to read the second if you do not want to. The second book just goes into what happens next in their lives. I will be reading it soon, so keep a look out for “The Rosie Effect” review in the next month or two.In conclusion, if you love situational comedy in your books and a little bit of a love story this novel is for you!

This book was just okay. The story of geneticist Don Tillman who has Aspbergers. Highly functioning, but his life is organized down to the minute and he doesn't like any disruption or change to his routine. He is however, puzzled as to why he is still unattached. He longs for a wife and goes on a quest to find one. A crazy quest, involving a lengthy questionnaire that no woman could possibly answer to his satisfaction. Don is friends with the womanizing Gene and his long suffering wife, Claudia. They attempt to buffer him and steer him through the social pitfalls Don inevitably falls into.Don then meets Rosie. A bartender and a student and they embark on a quest to find out who Rosie's real father is -- while getting to know each other.I read this book in one afternoon. It was mildly entertaining, but that is about it. Probably not going to peruse the sequel. Not exactly chick-lit, but very close.

I loved the "The Rosie Project" – at least, right up to the very end. I was captivated by Don’s view of his world and his nearly-astute, yet unknowingly skewed, interpretations of his interactions with others. I’ve known and loved people like Don and was rooting for him from the first. I so enjoyed how Don compartmentalized and tracked every aspect of his life with neat little packets: The Standardized Meal System, The Wife Project, and The Rosie Project. All through the first part of the book, I found myself laughing out loud; not laughing at Don, but enjoying him, amused by his views on life and his obliviousness to his many social errors. The conceit Simsion used to bring Rosie into Don’s life was also fun, interesting, and informative. But I thought Simsion flung us into his ending without first having laid sufficient ground-work for the reader to be with Don in his “Aha!” moment. Instead of delighting that Don had figured out how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together, I was left trying to figure out what the heck just happened: what did it mean? what were the clues I missed along the way? I was disappointed in the jarring ending to such an engaging book. [Because I was our discussion leader for "The Rosie Project," I felt compelled to do the research to fully grasp the implications of the ending and how it explained the several perplexing episodes in the book. Once I had put it all together (The Affair to Hide, The Basement Disclosure, The Wavering Stepfather, The Knock-Down Punch, Keeping Promises), I came to admire the skill with which Simsioin had woven all these threads. He had carefully constructed his humor so we were rolling on the floor laughing – never at Don, but always cheering him on. Hiding within the pages of this comedic romance was a plethera of information about many of the issues facing people with Asperger Syndrome. And, yes, I even found the delight in Don’s solving of the jigsaw puzzle. It just took me far too much work to get to that full understanding.
